Juris Doctor & MBA
Become a business leader with legal expertise.
The JD/MBA dual-degree program is designed for students who intend to concurrently earn a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and an MBA. The degrees are offered through the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center and the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Students earn overlapping credit hours and complete both degrees more rapidly than if pursued independently.
Pursuing a JD/MBA allows lawyers to understand their clients’ business and business executives to understand how to make legal decisions and work with legal counsel. Equipped with both legal acumen and business knowledge, you can apply for a range of jobs across both sectors.
This Track At-a-Glance
- Concurrent Credit:
Students earn 12 hours of credit toward the JD for courses completed in the Flores MBA program and 18 hours of credit toward the MBA for courses completed at LSU Law, saving you significant time in your studies versus pursuing the degrees individually. - Curriculum Pathway:
The Flores JD/MBA program follows the same curriculum path as the Flores One-Year MBA program: a 37-credit hour, cohort-based track that begins in August. The track includes twelve core MBA courses and one complementary elective, which can also be completed online. A student who wishes to first pursue the MBA curriculum at the business school would complete the first year at the business school followed by the first year of law school. The student would then pursue both law and business courses toward completion of the final requirements of each program. - Globally Engaged:
Students in the JD-MBA program can choose to participate in an optional global immersion experience to fulfill their elective requirement. This travel experience is paired with coursework, providing three (3) elective credit hours, and is offered during Spring Break. - STEM Designated:
Our program offers a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) designation across the full curriculum. By infusing a STEM framework with core business principles, this transformative pathway equips students with industry-specific skills to make data-driven decisions in dynamic business environments.
JD/MBA Curriculum Structure
The curriculum is structured on a semester basis, with each semester divided into two eight-week modules, allowing students to take up to three courses at a time. During the summer, students participate in five-week online courses.
A student who successfully completes the required courses of study receives two degrees: a Juris Doctor awarded by the LSU Law Center and a Master of Business Administration awarded by the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Although granting of concurrent credit may be referred to as a “dual degree program,” each degree is awarded separately. The only change in either program is the awarding of concurrent credit; a student pursues parallel degrees with common areas of study.
Expand the section below for a full breakdown of the curriculum structure. Please note that this information only covers the MBA component of your studies; please consult LSU Law for more information regarding the JD curriculum.
