Customized Coursework That Fits Your Career Goals

BS Marketing students can earn a concentration in one of three areas. Choosing a concentration allows you to align your knowledge and skills with your interests and career goals.

The Digital Marketing concentration equips students with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the in-demand fields of digital and social media marketing. 

The concentration includes exposure to digital marketing platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Additionally, students will gain experience with digital marketing campaign organizational tools and software, such as HubSpot, Google Analytics, and other data-centric platforms for the rollout of a digital or social media campaign. Students will be able to integrate their knowledge of promotions, marketing research, consumer behavior, and statistics to inform marketing strategies, tasks, and decisions.

To satisfy the Digital Marketing Concentration requirements, students must complete MKT 3421: Marketing Communications: Promotions (3), MKT 3501: Data Analytics I (3), and MKT 4440: Advanced Digital Marketing (3). The course descriptions and prerequisites can be found in the LSU course catalog

Note: To enroll in the Digital Marketing concentration, students must: 

  • Be a declared marketing major

The Marketing Analytics Concentration is designed to equip students with the practical knowledge and skillsets necessary to make data-driven decisions.

This concentration includes exposure to programming languages, such as R, Python, and Tableau, as well as methods that enable the construction of predictive models and metrics, such as customer lifetime value, sales forecasting, and customer segmentation. Students will be able to integrate their knowledge of economics, decision science, marketing research, consumer behavior, and statistics that can inform marketing strategies, tasks, and decisions.

To satisfy the requirement of the Marketing Analytics Concentration, students must complete MKT 3501: Marketing Analytics I (3), MKT 4501: Intelligence Based Marketing Decisions (3), and either MKT 4480: Marketing Analytics Practicum (3) or MKT 4481: Marketing Analytics Internship (3). The Professional Sales concentration is a set of marketing courses and guided experiences designed to equip students with the practical knowledge and skillset necessary to excel in the dynamic domain of professional selling. Specifically, students in the professional sales concentration take courses in professional sales fundamentals and sales management. Students then engage in either a professional sales practicum or an internship designed for students to gain experience while working in sales positions guided by a professional practitioner and overseen by a faculty mentor. Companies recruiting LSU marketing majors often place exceptional value on students who have an academic background in professional sales as it reduces their training time and expenses.

Students must complete MKT 3427: Professional Sales, MKT 4423: Sales Management, and either MKT 4478: Professional Sales Practicum or MKT 4479: Professional Sales Internship to satisfy the concentration requirements. The course descriptions and prerequisites can be found in the LSU course catalog

Earn Credit, Gain Invaluable Experience 

Through the marketing internship program, students can earn up to six hours of course credit for practical work experience. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to pursue a valuable work experience where they can apply the concepts and principles they have learned in their marketing courses. 

The internship program is open to all students, not just marketing majors. It is a pass/fail course. The minimum requirements are:

  • Must be a junior (or have completed 60 or more credit hours.)
  • Must have completed a Principles of Marketing course. It is highly recommended that more marketing courses be completed prior to the internship experience as this will better prepare the student to learn and to complete the project.
  • Must have at least 100 hours of practical work experience for three hours credit; must have 150 hours for six hours credit.
  • Must complete a project term paper, which is primarily analytical in nature (not descriptive). This paper applies marketing concepts and principles to the company in which the student is employed. For example, some students have developed a marketing segmentation strategy for the company while others have developed advertising campaigns. This paper draws heavily from marketing textbooks, company records, and trade publications. It must be prepared in professional printed format and in standardized research paper format, including statement of purpose, references, and a complete bibliography.
