Distinguished Communicator Huddle–Fall Kickoff 

Welcome back!  At this DC Kickoff event, you will have the opportunity to meet other DC candidates, check-in with your CxC Rep and learn more about the upcoming DC events. We will also have a SPECIAL GUEST: Vice Provost Matt Lee will stop in to say hello to you and give you some practice communication time with college administrators. We will provide brain food, so RSVP today!

Distinguished Communicator Interest Meeting & Housekeeping Check In

In this meeting, CxC staff will do a general check in of DC program requirements and then we will break into small groups by college to make sure everyone is on the right page with their DC requirements and what needs to be completed, when. All DCs must bring a copy of their personal tracking worksheets and make sure they’ve submitted all CI Course participation/reflection forms and Workshop participation/reflection forms. Remember: one reflection per workshop/CI course.

Distinguished Communicator Huddle–Communicating your Best First Impressions

 This huddle, offered twice during the week of the LSU Career Fair, DC candidates will learn more about how to communicate their best first impression. By combining the information covered in previously offered workshops (elevator pitches & dressing for success) we will specifically look at what to say when you introduce yourself and the visual presence you communicate through nonverbal indicators.

LSU Student Workshop–Email Etiquette

Do you know the difference between the “to” field and the “bcc” field when sending an email? Do you effectively use email subject lines? Do you always proofread your emails for tone and grammar before sending? We will be talking about these things and much more! Yes, email is quick, easy and an important communication medium for all professions, but this doesn’t mean all grammar rules go out the window. There are also many genre and etiquette rules to email and you should know them all if you want to successfully correspond with others.

Distinguished Communicator Workshop–ePortfolios

Your ePortfolio is a website that effectively communicates your work and skills as they relate to your post-graduation goals. It’s an ideal tool to use as you are seeking internships, scholarships, jobs, and/or admission to grad school. A strong ePortfolio immediately sets you apart from other students, which is one reason it is part of your Distinguished Communicator certification. Whether your ePortfolio currently consists of a blank page or you are close to a final draft, this workshop is for you! We’ll review the basics of good portfolios and work with you to do some hands-on building/editing, so join us!

Calling All LSU Students! Speak to your Public: Spoken Communication Practices for Larger Audiences

Do you get nervous when you have to engage larger audiences? You are not alone! But with the right prep and practice anyone can elevate their spoken communication skills. At this workshop, open to all LSU students, CxC staff will offer tips for preparation and delivery of spoken communication for large audiences in various settings.

Distinguished Communicator Housekeeping Check-in Meeting

All current Distinguished Communicators can attend this meeting and check in with CxC reps to make sure their personal records match CxC records regarding their progress in the Distinguished Communicator program.
