GeauxTeach STEM Undergraduate Certification Pathway

Become Certified by Graduation

Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics majors may choose a Concentration in Secondary Education. Students with this concentration integrate a sequence GeauxTeach courses into their undergraduate program, culminating in a semester-long full-time teaching residency. Upon graduation, they receive both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Louisiana Level 1 Professional Certificate that qualifies them to teach their subject in grades 6-12.

The GeauxTeach STEM Undergraduate Certification Pathway is the only undergraduate pathway at LSU to the Level 1 Professional Certificate in STEM for grades  6-12. It is best begun in the freshman year or in the first semester of the sophomore year. Candidates typically take one GeauxTeach course per semester (in lieu of some elective courses). This allows them to graduate on time and with no extra hours required. Since the GeauxTeach courses meet the C-I requirements, candidates are eligible for the LSU Communicator Certificate or Medal.

A significant number of students choose the GeauxTeach STEM Undergraduate Certification Pathway as an enhanced qualification for professional or graduate school. The social and communication skills acquired in the program are highly-valued in many professions, including healthcare, business, and academia. Numerous graduates have earned medical, dental, technical or academic degrees and gone on to successful careers as physicians, dentists, research scientists, or academicians.
