Areas of Contribution: Heat Transfer, Combustion, Thermodynamics, Optical Diagnostics, Renewable Energy. Dr. Charalampopoulos, known as “Dr. C” to his students and many of his colleagues, taught subjects such as heat transfer, thermodynamics, combustion, internal combustion engines, renewable and nuclear power plant design, and laser diagnostics (at both the undergraduate and graduate levels) throughout the span of his 35-year career at LSU. In research, he made seminal contributions in combustion, radiative heat transfer diagnostics, and soot formation and characterization, among several other subjects. He also served as associate dean for academics in the College of Engineering and as interim department chair of mechanical engineering.
