Navigation, Masthead & Footer
Main Navigation
The main navigation is controlled in the site's main _props file. To edit the navigation on a site, do the following:
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Select “Edit”
- Click the “Edit Meganav” button
- To add a parent item (Top Level Link)
- Add a new row
- In the left column, type the text you want to appear in the main navigation
- Highlight the text
- Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
- Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
- Click “Insert”
- Click “Ok"
- To add a sub nav item (Secondary Content/Links)
- In the right column, add a bulleted list
- Type the text you want to appear in the sub nav from the main parent item
- Highlight the text
- Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
- Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
- Click “Insert”
- Click “Ok”
- Save
- Publish
Side Navigation
Adding a Side Navigation
Contact [email protected] or submit a service desk ticket at [email protected] to enable a side navigation.
Editing a Side Navigation
The side navigation is controlled in the nav.inc file of a directory. To edit an already existing side navigation, do the following:
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the _nav.inc file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Select “Edit”
- To add an item to the side navigation,
- Add a bullet
- Type the text you want to appear in the main navigation
- Highlight the text
- Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
- Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
- Click “Insert”
- Click “Ok"
- To delete an item from the side navigation,
- Highlight the link
- Select "Remove Link" icon from the toolbar
- Delete the text and the bullet
- Save
- Publish
Masthead
The main _props.pcf file also controls the site's masthead. To edit the name which appears in the masthead:
Department Information
To add a department info, do the following:
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Select the “Properties” tab
- To change the site name, update the "Department Name" field
- To change the link, update the "Department Link" field
- Save
- Publish
College Information
To add a college info, do the following:
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Select “Properties”
- Check the box by "College Name Display"
- Add the parent name in the "College Name" text field
- Add the link to the parent item in the "College Link" text field
- Save
- Publish
Footer
Contact Information
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Click the “Edit Main Content” button
- Scroll down to the footer
- Click the “Edit Footer Address” button
- Make edits – If inserting a unit name, it is best practice to link the unit name back to the unit’s homepage.
- Save
- Publish
Social Media Icons
Social icons will default to the university's main feeds. If you want to change the links, do the following:
- Log into Omni
- Navigate to the directory you want to edit
- Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
- Select “Edit”
- Scroll down to the footer
- To edit a footer icon,
- Click the “Edit Footer Social List” button
- Highlight the social media name (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Click on the "Insert/Edit Link" icon in the toolbar
- Paste your social media's URL in the URL text field
- Click "Save"
- To delete a footer icon,
- Place your cursor in the same cell as the item you want to delete
- Right click in the same cell
- Select “Row”
- Select “Delete row”
- Save
- Publish
Uneditable Region
Two areas are uneditable in the footer. The left area, which includes webmaster info and required links, and the copyright statement beneath the social icons.
