Mobile Equipment Shop

The central function of the Mobile Equipment Shop is to provide safe and reliable transportation for Facility Services vehicles and equipment.  Additionally, the Mobile Equipment Shop maintains all life safety and standby generators on campus and is responsible for re-fueling these generators in times of crisis, such as hurricanes and power outages.

The Mobile Equipment Shop consists of 1 manager and 2 highly skilled mechanics dedicated to maintaining all mobile equipment systems on campus.

HVAC Shop

The primary function of the HVAC Department is to provide a comfortable environment for students, faculty and staff. The HVAC Department provides maintenance, repair, and installation of building environmental systems campus wide. This includes maintaining temperature and humidity control of classrooms, labs, and offices to provide a safe working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff. The department also provides preventive maintenance that includes changing air filters and cleaning mechanical systems throughout campus.

The department is divided into 4 groups; Repairs, Preventative Maintenance, Athletic Facilities and Residential Life Facilities to better serve the entire campus community. The staff includes 20 highly skilled HVAC mechanics working to maintain all HVAC systems on campus.

Through an overall HVAC Control System, individual buildings have electronic controls linked to the campus network to optimize the performance of installed HVAC Systems.  These buildings are remotely monitored to ensure cost-efficient performance. Building HVAC systems are scheduled through this system and provides information to the HVAC technicians in the field to analyze and fix related problems.

The HVAC Department also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects on campus. All reviews and inspections are based on LSU Design standards.

Fire & Security Shop

The primary function of the Fire & Security is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty and staff.  The Fire Alarm group ensure proper function of specialty systems and life safety systems in campus buildings.  They provide services for the maintenance and installation, access control systems, security systems, telecommunications infrastructure wiring, clock systems, fire alarm systems, life safety systems, and motor control systems.

The Security group ensures the proper function of securing facilities.

Fire and Security also assists the Planning, Design & Construction department with interfacing new building control systems into the campus systems and is also a participant in commissioning processes.
