Lead Communication Facilitator

I have a special place in my heart for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). Coordinating services that allow these individuals to experience equal access to all LSU has to offer is a joy for me.

The services Disability Services provides our students truly require a dedicated team who go above and beyond–providing the best services possible to ensure each student has equal access to LSU. I’m very proud to have the opportunity of coordinating an amazing team of Communication Facilitators who provide American Sign Language, Cued Speech, and Captioning services.

Over the past 26 years as an Interpreter/Captionist, I can proudly say I have experienced everything LSU has to offer from elementary education to nuclear science or from studio art classes to LSU’s Law Center. Proudly serving my students involved in everything from LSU Ambassadors to Student Organizations, and even the long rehearsal sessions of an amazing Tiger Girl. My students have earned undergraduate degrees, Master’s, PhDs, and even law degrees.  My DHH students have been recipients of awards such as University medalists, Tiger 12, and Distinguished Communicators. The thought that I had even a small part to play in their successes means I have the best job on campus!

Lifelong Career

I first met a person who was Deaf when I was in 9th grade. From learning how to sign my ABCs to taking lessons at the Deaf School to working my first job as an interpreter in the EBRP school system – I could have never imagined this would be my lifelong career. I would have been content to work in bookkeeping – but instead, I can proudly say I love going to work every day and that I bleed Purple & Gold!

Feature Films

I can probably quote all the lines from The Big Bang Theory.

I love Star Trek and even went on a Trekkie Cruise back in the 80s and have a picture of myself holding hands with Gene Roddenberry.

I absolutely love the Harry Potter movies. I once captioned for an ENGL/LIT class that used the Harry Potter series as the text. I'm currently planning my third trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando.

Family Travel

When I’m not at LSU I love spending time with my family. Our adventures have taken us far and wide. From the Grand Canyon to Washington, D.C.; from the San Antonio River Walk to Rock City in Chattanooga; cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, and the western Caribbean; from the Mall of America to the Happiest Place on Earth (Disney World, of course – however, Universal Studios is now the family favorite Wizarding World place to be) – we LOVE creating cherished family memories.
