Engaged Citizen Program (ECP)
The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL), in conjunction with LSU Campus Life, has established the Engaged Citizen Program, which seeks to support and recognize the accomplishments of undergraduate students who engage significantly with their communities to address critical community needs.

ECP Medal
Undergraduates, regardless of major, who wish to earn the Engaged Citizen medal must complete the following requirements as approved by CCELL or Campus Life:
- Complete a minimum of seven credit hours of coursework designated as service-learning
by CCELL.
- Register for service-learning sections of general education courses like ENGL 2000.
- Create your own service-learning experience within any course, pending instructor and CCELL approval.
- Take service-learning sections of courses in your major or minor field of study.
- View list of service-learning courses offered every semester.
- Perform a minimum of 100 approved hours of community service.
- Engage with pre-approved Campus Life service organizations such as Geaux Big Baton Rouge, LSU Food Pantry, and Volunteer LSU.
- Collaborate with CCELL and Campus Life to find service opportunities that connect your passions to your major/field of study.
- Upload your service hours for verification on TigerLink, under the LSU Engaged Citizen Program group.
- Turn in a reflective paper detailing your service and service-learning experience.
- Write an essay that should be a minimum of 2,000 words, detailed and personal, and adheres to the program rubric.
- Document what you've learned about the community and yourself as an Engaged Citizen.
- Connect your work to LSU's Commitment to Community.
- Get feedback on your drafts by submitting your work to CCELL staff before the deadline.
Community Impact Achievement
Are you unable to complete the Engaged Citizen Program medal requirements, but still engage your community significantly? You could be eligible for the Community Impact Achievement. Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for this recognition by following the same application process as Engaged Citizen medal candidates.
Students who wish to earn the Community Impact Achievement must complete the following requirements as approved by CCELL or Campus Life:
- Complete a minimum of three credit hours of coursework designated as service-learning
by CCELL.
- Like the medal program, you can enroll in a S-L required or optional section; or, contract-option a course with CCELL and faculty approval.
- However, you must earn a B- or higher for the credits to satisfy this requirement.
- Also, transfer credits will not satisfy this requirement.
- Perform a minimum of 50 approved hours of community service.
- Like the medal program, you must submit their service hours for verification on Tigerlink, under the LSU Engaged Citizen Program group.
- You must also follow the medal service hours submission rules as outlined in the Service Hours FAQ.
- Turn in a reflecttive essay detailing your service and service-learning experience.
- Write an essay that should be a minimum of 1,000 words, detailed and personal, and adheres to the ECP essay rubric.
- Like the medal program, you must document what you've learned about the community and yourself as an Engaged Citizen and connect your work to LSU's Commitment to Community.
- Also, receive feedback on your draft by submitting your work to CCELL staff before the deadline.

Your registration form helps us track your progress throughout the program, so please be sure to update it if anything changes (i.e., your proposed graduation date, major, college).
