GameDay Recycling Challenge

The GameDay Recycling Challenge is a nationwide competition, among colleges and universities to reduce and recycle waste generated at home football games. To participate in the competition, schools choose one home football game to track and report their waste diversion data. This year, we are partnering with the Osprey Initiative and student organizations across campus to collect the most amount of recyclables for the LSU game against the University of Vanderbilt on November 23, 2024.

All glass collected will be given to Glass Half Full to be turned into sand for coastal restoration projects.

Those who volunteer AND stay for the full time will receive a $100 stipend. This stipend consists of a $50 stipend for staying for the full time it takes to pick the bowl and a $50 stipend for staying for the full time it takes to sort materials.

Volunteer shifts are available on:

  • Sunday, Nov. 24 (4 am -12 pm), to stay for both the collection and the sortation of recyclables ($100 stipend)
  • Sunday, Nov. 24 (4 am - 8 am), to assist with the entire recyclables collection process ($50 stipend)
  • Sunday, Nov. 24 (6 am - 10 am), swing shift to assist with a portion of both collecting and sorting recyclables
  • Sunday, Nov. 24 (8 am - 12 pm) to assist with the entire sortation process of recyclables ($50 stipend)

We need as many student organizations as possible to regain the title as National Recycling Champs!  LSU has previously won the 2015, 2016 and 2019 competition. If you or your student organization is looking to volunteer, you can do so by filling out the sign-up form.
