VMCAS
Applicants to the LSU Vet Med DVM program must submit an application through the Veterinary
Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). The application opens January of each
cycle and is due in September. Applicants can create an account and receive a VMCAS
ID free of charge through the VMCAS portal. Payment is only due at the time of application submission.
Questions about the VMCAS Application and its parts should be directed to VMCAS Customer Service either through the Student and Advisor Hotline at 617-612-2884 or by emailing [email protected].
How to apply through VMCAS
Electronic Letters of Recommendation (eLORs)
Applicants must request a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation to be submitted
electronically through VMCAS each cycle.
- One letter must be from a veterinarian.
- A maximum of six eLORs will be accepted by LSU Vet Med.
- eLORs have the same deadline as the VMCAS application.
- Committee letters count as one letter of recommendation and are accepted.
- It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that evaluators submit the eLORs through
VMCAS.
- Applicants and evaluators can track the progress of their eLORs online.
- No eLORs will be accepted outside of the VMCAS system. eLORs sent directly to the
LSU Vet Med will not be including in the evaluation.
Official Transcripts
Official transcripts for college-level coursework (undergraduate, graduate, or continuing
education) must be sent to VMCAS for Transcript Verification.
- Transcripts must be postmarked to VMCAS by the application deadline.
- VMCAS will not accept transcripts postmarked after the deadline.
- LSU will not receive application transcripts outside the VMCAS.
- All transcripts must be received before Transcript Verification can begin. During
this process VMCAS matches coursework line by line against official transcripts to
ensure courses have been correctly entered.
- Transcript Verification can take up to 4 weeks to complete. Submitting all transcripts
before the deadline improves the chance of the application being verified early with
time to make corrections if necessary.
- Applicants should enter course work into the VMCAS system exactly as it appears on
the transcript. List every instance of a course even if it was repeated.
- Regardless of the number of courses completed at one institution or if the courses
fulfill LSU Vet Med prerequisites, transcripts must be submitted from all institutions attended.
VMCAS must receive an official transcript from each institution that the credit has
been earned. Even if coursework is reflected on another institution's transcript,
applicants must submit an official transcript directly from the institution at which
the course was originally taken. This includes college credits earned through a high
school course or transfer credits from a community college. If these credits appear
on a 4-year university record that has been submitted, transcripts still must be submitted
from the original institution(s).
Visit the VMCAS Help Center for information about submitting international transcripts or study abroad/overseas U.S. transcripts.
