LSU Science Café Celebrates 10 Years
January 27, 2023
The free, monthly public talk featuring LSU professors and their research has brought hundreds of community members together
BATON ROUGE – Over the past 10 years, more than 100 LSU professors have shared their research on topics ranging from how to hurricane-proof your house to how to lead like Joe Burrow and many more topics in between. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the free, monthly public lecture series, LSU Science Café, will mark its 10th anniversary at The Varsity Theatre.
Astronaut and LSU Health New Orleans Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine Dr. Serena Auñón-Chancellor will talk about how conducting research aboard the International Space Station has impacted her and her work now as a physician and professor who trains the next generation of doctors. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged. This event can be viewed live online here: https://www.facebook.com/WRKF893/live_videos/.
“So much has happened over the past 10 years, but LSU Science Café has been a constant. For example, we’ve provided a platform for LSU professors to share their expertise with the community following the 2016 floods; we pivoted to a virtual broadcast during the pandemic and connected with people in Baton Rouge and beyond; and now our audience can continue to get access to reliable, relevant information through LSU Science Café both in-person and through our livestream in partnership with NPR affiliate WRKF 89.3FM.”
Robert Twilley, LSU interim vice president of research and economic development
LSU Office of Research & Economic Development launched the event in 2013 and has sponsored it for the past 10 years. Campus Federal Credit Union and WRKF 89.3FM are co-sponsors. LSU Science Café is part of an international Science Café network. Watch previous LSU Science Café talks here: https://www.youtube.com/@lsuresearch6902/videos.
