Biography

Joshua Wheeler is from Alamogordo, New Mexico. He's the author of Acid West: Essays, published in 2018 by Farrar, Straus & Giroux (FSG Originals). Acid West was a finalist for the Western Writers Spur Award and the New Mexico Book Award. Los Angeles Review of Books describes Acid West as “fluorescent…brilliant…worth reading more than once” while the LA Times says it is "a brilliant portrait of a place and a people...written with enviable verve and erudition." Professor Wheeler’s essays and features have appeared in The Iowa Review, Southern Review, Gulf Coast, Harper's, BuzzFeed, NY Times and others. He develops and teaches a wide variety of courses including: HNRS 2000: Living in Communities, HNRS 2020: Immersion Journalism, ENGL 2024: The Complete History of the Essay, ENGL 2025: The Mo/PoMo Novella, ENGL 3133: Experimental Documentary and the Video Essay, ENGL 4001: Writing Creative Nonfiction, ENGL 7001: The Loose Sally: Imagining the Literary Essay, ENGL 7001: The Protest Essay, ENGL 7106: The Fake Memoir.
