BIO

Clara Hutson Wicker joined the LSU COMD faculty in August 2023, as a Clinical Instructor with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (Headstart Screening Clinic). Clara is an accomplished Speech-Language Pathologist who is familiar with many aspects of managing screening, evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders. Clara has extensive knowledge of speech, fluency and voice disorders. Clara has done extensive work with the La. Dept. of Health-Early Steps Program providing early intervention services (Birth-3yrs of age) and has provided speech-language services to preschool children as well as K-12th grade students within the public school system. She has served as an Adjunct Instructor and Clinical Supervisor with the Southern University Speech and Hearing Clinic, a Speech-Language Pathologist with Pupil Appraisal Services with the Baker Community School System, Speech-Language Pathologist with the St. Helena School System, East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Central and Livingston Parish School Systems (Summer school sessions) and retired from the Zachary Community School System (August 2020). She has held positions of Speech Assessment Consultant (EBR School System); Lead Teacher (Zachary Community School System); Supervisor of SLP-Assistants and Evaluation Coordinator of Speech Pathologists (Baker School System). Clara has over 33 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology and a Master of Education: Special Education (Urban & Ethnic Communication Disorders) from Southern University A&M College.
