  • Message Interpretation and Misunderstanding in Interpersonal Communication: Factors that influence the ways that individuals interpret messages, including message variables (e.g., equivocation, powerlessness) and individual-level variables (e.g., sex and gender, sense of humor); consequences of misunderstanding.
  • Risk Communication: Risk and decision-making concerning extreme weather and climate events.

  • 2008-2013   Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program. Funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Climate Program Office, Climate Risk Mitigation Program. Co-Principal Investigator (with Shafer, M., Keim, B., et al.). Added as a Co-PI in 2010 ($39,292 additional funds for LSU). August 2008-July 2013. Total funding is $3,849,883.

  • 2009    Hurricanes, Institutional Procedures, and Information Processing (HIPIP): Engagement with decision-makers and coastal residents.
