The Flagship Graduate Assistantship Program was established to encourage outstanding graduate students to pursue the doctorate in engineering and encourage engineering education as a profession.  The prospective Ph.D. candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and should be seeking a Ph.D. in engineering.

The Flagship Graduate Assistantship provides a $15,000 annual stipend plus a tuition waiver and benefits for a maximum of four years contingent on annual funding. Applicants must be newly enrolled as an LSU Ph.D.  student.

  • Applicant must have a demonstrated commitment to research. The applicant will be required to participate in at least one (per year) College of Engineering educational outreach activity.
  • The recipient’s home department/advisor must provide an annual minimum assistantship of $9,000 each year. The match may be in the form of a graduate teaching or research assistantship from research grants, contracts or other funds.
  • Recipients will be reviewed for satisfactory academic progress, including full time enrollment status and maintaining an overall and semester GPA of 3.25.
  • Recipients will be reviewed to assess a continued commitment to a career in engineering research and education through the submission of a semester report, including research updates and educational outreach activities.
