Brief Biography

Catherine M. Lemieux, PhD, ACSW, LCSW-BACS, serves as the Margaret Champagne Womack Professor in Addictive Disorders at the School of Social Work at Louisiana State University, where she has taught graduate-level research and practice courses and electives in the areas of addiction and other behavioral health issues since 1995.

For over 18 years Dr. Lemieux served as a clinician and supervisor in various outpatient and institutional settings with individuals and families affected by substance misuse and other behavioral health challenges. Originally from New England, Dr. Lemieux migrated to south Florida, where she earned a PhD in social welfare from Florida International University in 1995. During her tenure at LSU, Dr. Lemieux fulfilled numerous administrative roles within the School of Social Work, including Interim Dean, MSW Program Director, and PhD Program Director. She is presently credentialed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.

Dr. Lemieux has facilitated over 150 refereed and invited presentations and trainings on empirically-based assessment of and intervention with persons affected by addictive disorders and co-occurring disorders, and on topics germane to social work practice, such as professional ethics and clinical supervision. She has garnered considerable funding from federal entities, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Health Services Resources Administration. Dr. Lemieux has numerous publications, including a book published by the American Correctional Association, Offenders and Substance Abuse: Bringing the Family into Focus.
